History.

The football pool started looong ago (I want to say 1993?) when Don Kassner (Donny), Dan Christensen (Dan-o) and I started taking the games each week and guessing who would win/lose, etc... we developed a system of points and tracked it during the season. All this was done with newspaper, telephone and email. When I moved up to Vancouver, WA in 1995 it became much more difficult, but we kept it up. That's when I put it on-line. Then over the next few years we added Friends and Family. and even their friends and family.... Over the years there have been over 40 people who have played and right now we have (I think) about 26 active players. We're all friends and family (even though not everybody knows everybody), as the football pool has never been open to the 'public'.

Winner

At the end of the year, the winner gets the “Bob Davis Award™”. We've been giving that award in Bob's honor ever since he passed away, before that, it was Bob who usually sent the award to the winner. I’ll forward you the email about why I started this new tradition.

Kelly Faber won last year by picking the Chiefs over the 49ers.

Unspoken Rules

You can't see other people's picks until you enter yours. This use to just be a rule, but now it's the way the website works. The reason is that you shouldn't allow other people's picks to influence yours.
You need to get your picks in before kickoff of the first game of the week.
- The picks page is posted at 6am PST on Wednesday of every week, the 'spread' is locked in at that time.
- The way it works now, is if you get the pick in late, then the system automatically picks the home team for you, and you cannot pick that game as your upset, or lock
Once you enter your picks, you cannot change them

Email Distribution list:

I used to have an email distribution list (like an old-fashioned one that people could reply to, etc...), but I've replaced that with discord (more on that below).

I now use a newsletter style mailer to send out emails.

Discord

We have an 'official' discord server for trash talking, results, etc... There is a bot that you can interact with and get information. I'm going to put together a more formal guide on how to interact with it. In the meantime don't hesitate to jump on and talk it up.
